  Join the Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) to protect and promote the interests of tenants and others who use social housing services, such as people who may be homeless and Gypsy/Travellers.    Scottish Ministers would like to appoint one new Board member to complement the existing SHR Board team.   We value very highly the benefits of having different experience and points of view on our Board and we are keen that people from all walks of life apply. We particularly welcome applications from women, disabled people, LGBT+ people, people from ethnic minority communities and people aged under 50.   The Scottish Housing Regulator is the independent regulator of Registered Social Landlords and local authority housing services in Scotland. The Regulator has one statutory objective which is to safeguard and promote the interests of: - around 600,000 tenants who live in homes provided by social landlords; - over 120,000 owners who receive services from social landlords; - around 40,000 people and their families who experience homelessness and seek help from local authorities; - around 335 Gypsy/Traveller families who can use official sites provided by social landlords.   The Board is responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of the organisation, ensuring that it achieves its statutory objective and carries out its functions effectively and efficiently. Appointment of the Chair to the Scottish Food Commision   This is an exciting opportunity to shape and influence the development of a new public body: the Scottish Food Commission. It is expected that the Commission will be formally established by mid-2025.   The Scottish Food Commission is a new non-departmental public body that is to be established to provide an oversight role of provisions made in the Good Food Nation (Scotland) Act 2022.   As the first chair of the Scottish Food Commission, this appointment will play a crucial role in shaping the future and strategic direction of this new public body.   You will be actively involved in the recruitment of the chief executive, the first member of staff to the Scottish Food Commission, and in appointing the other members of the board.   You will work closely with the sponsor team and the chief executive, once in place, to enable the new public body to take on its statutory functions and full budgetary control once it is established.   Once the body is fully established you will be key in ensuring the Commission effectively fulfils its oversight role and provides constructive challenge, that is evidence based, to Scottish Ministers and relevant authorities in relation to their Good Food Nation Plans.   This is a high publicity role that will attract great interest from key stakeholders interested in the Scottish food system.   Remuneration and time commitment   The chair role is paid at a gross daily rate of £211 per day (7.5 hours).This role is non-pensionable. This means that there is no pension contribution paid.   We expect that the time commitment will change over the life of the body. While the body is being established and during the first months of operation more engagement will be needed – i.e. up to 80 days/year. During the establishment phase there may also be phases of increased activity.   It is likely that once the body is established the chair’s time commitment will decrease to approximately 50 days/year.   The chair’s time commitment will be reviewed on a regular basis.

Appointment of the Chair of the Scottish Agricultural Wages Board   Scottish Ministers are looking to appoint a new Chair of the Scottish Agricultural Wages Board from 1 July 2024.   Applications are invited from people with the skills and experience to help workers’ and employers’ representatives to reach fair and reasonable settlements on matters relating to agricultural wages, holiday entitlement and other relevant terms and conditions of service.   The Scottish Agricultural Wages Board is an Executive Non-Departmental Public Body set up under the Agricultural Wages (Scotland) Act 1949.  Its purpose is to make statutory Orders fixing minimum wage rates, holiday entitlement and other terms and conditions of service for workers employed in agriculture in Scotland.  The Board’s Orders are legally enforceable and the Scottish Government Rural Directorate has a duty to investigate complaints about non-compliance.  It also carries out random test inspections on agricultural holdings to ensure compliance and pursues recovery of arrears on behalf of workers.   Time Commitment and Remuneration   Remuneration is: - £278.00 Daily Rate - £139.00 Half Day Rate - £81.00 Homework Rate The role currently requires a time commitment between 10 and 16 days per annum. Depending on the demand, the time commitment could be less than stated, however, it is unlikely to be more. Reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed. This appointment is non-pensionable.

It is called ‘Our Charter’. - Responding to requests from the Scottish Parliament and Scottish Government to report ‘on any matter relevant to social security’ when asked by either of them.
